Getting started
This chapter takes you from nothing to a working tab. It covers what Claudette needs, installing it (building it, on Linux), the first launch and signing in, opening your first tab, and a tour of the window. It ends with how Claudette uses Claude Code, so you know what is yours and what is Claude Code’s, and how to run Claudette from its source.
Start with What you need. On Linux, Installing on Linux has everything from start to finish. If Claudette is already installed, A tour of the window names every part you see.
In this chapter
- What you needClaudette runs Claude Code in every tab, so Claude Code has to be installed first.
- InstallingInstall Claude Code first, then Claudette.
- Installing on LinuxThere's no package for Linux yet, so you build Claudette from its source: a few commands, then a launcher in your app menu.
- The first launchWhen Claudette starts it shows Looking for Claude Code… while it finds claude and asks it for its version.
- Signing inClaude Code keeps its own sign-in.
- Trying the demoLook around Claudette on made-up projects, with a stand-in for Claude, without an account.
- Your first tabA tab is one Claude Code session, run as its own claude in a folder you pick.
- A tour of the windowThe usage header, the sidebar, the conversation, the tool windows and the composer, and where each is explained.
- How Claudette uses Claude CodeClaudette doesn't replace Claude Code and doesn't call Claude's API itself.
- Running from sourceYou can build and run Claudette from a checkout of its repository.
