Project files
Each project’s folder group can have a Project Files tab: a tree of the project’s folders and files, the files you open in tabs of their own, and Claude’s changes marked where they are in the code. It’s there for reading what Claude wrote, or fixing a line of it, without leaving the conversation. This chapter covers opening the tab, the explorer, finding files, the file tabs, editing, reading a Markdown file rendered, saving, how Claude’s changes show, and how a file named in a reply opens here.
It’s an editor, not an IDE: it has no completion, errors, debugging, building or source control.
In this chapter
- Opening project filesA Project Files tab shows a project's files beside, or instead of, its conversations: the explorer on one side and the files you've opened, in tabs, on the other.
- The explorerThe explorer is the tree of the project's folders and files at the side of a Files tab.
- Finding a file by nameType part of a file's name and the explorer swaps its tree for a list of the files that match, best first.
- Finding in filesFind text in a project's files, and replace it, from anywhere in the window.
- File tabsA row of tabs sits over the editor, one for each open file.
- EditingThe editor shows one file at a time, in the Files tab, under its file tabs.
- Markdown filesRead a Markdown file rendered, in the editor's place or beside it.
- SavingClaudette doesn't save for you.
- Claude's changes in the editorClaude's changes marked in the explorer and the editor's gutter, with a peek at what was there and Revert.
- Opening files from the conversationWhen Claude names a file, or you click a file in Changed files, the file opens in the project's Files tab, at the line that's named.
