Threads
One task spread over several tabs in a project used to mean copying prompts into each tab and their replies back. A thread does that for you: a tab whose Claude hands work to other tabs in its folder group, its sub-threads, and gets their results back, while each stays a whole tab you can watch, steer and answer.
This chapter covers what threads are, how to set one up, how work goes out and reports come back, how you answer a sub-thread’s questions, and how Claude can reach any other Claude Code session on your computer.
In this chapter
- What threads areA thread is a tab whose Claude can hand work to other tabs in the same folder group.
- Making a threadEverything about threads is in a tab's Thread submenu: right-click the tab in the sidebar, or in the rail when the sidebar is collapsed.
- Sending work and getting reportsHow the thread's Claude hands work to its sub-threads, and how their results come back to it in one report.
- Sub-threads waiting on youA sub-thread is a whole tab, so it stops for your permission, questions and plans like any other.
- Reaching other sessionsClaude Code sessions can message each other by name with SendMessage, which is Claude Code's own tool.
